If they develop this habit when they are young they are more likely to continue reading when they are older. Depending on your child’s age and personality, the type of reading log that works best for your child will differ. Your child might want to track how the number of pages read, the amount of time spent reading, or simply keep track of each book they read. I also track what I read on my Bookstagram, but it’s so nice to have a physical copy. These reading logs also help with my own book organization—with so much digital clutter, it’s refreshing to have an actual piece of paper in front of me to track my books. As of Friday March break was over, and we are now onto week 1 of the school closures.
You and your child can keep track of all their reading progress throughout the year with one of these free homeschool book logs. If you're a vivid reader, then you might even consider a reading journaling routine. This habit helps to make the most of each book and capture all the important and valuable insights so you don't forget anything quickly. Track your child’s reading progress over time
I would love to down load these but you don’t have june, july, August in the calender for the book logs. When you keep track of the books, you read, you will remember what you read. I can’t tell you how many times I have started to read a book only to discover I had actually read it.
By the time students reach these grade levels, most are expected to be reading like “young adults”. And the hope is to foster a love of reading from a young age. In fact, many districts nowadays will assign students with a color-coded reading level, based on the “Accelerated Reader” model. The older children are asked to provide the same information… in addition to the book’s author and the amount of time they read. Both book logs print out on an AVERAGE size piece of paper.

And in doing so, we need to make sure they fully understand what they are reading. I remember being asked to read some of these in high school. They need to appreciate the feeling of turning pages in their fingers. And while that can be a wonderful thing… it is often the one thing standing in the way of raising a society of children with imaginations. That is why you will often see book reports and/or oral presentations at this age . This is usually the case for younger elementary students.
As a follow-up to this, especially when it comes to middle and high school-age students, I like the incorporation of a reading response chart. It is designed to foster reading comprehension and encourage original thoughts. There’s no need to click on the image, just hit Control P and print it out.

We have to make do and right now isn’t the time for kids to be slacking on their learning.
